In 2008 our Fleet of 50 cars was spread across a number of suppliers with a mixture of owned, leased and hire purchase vehicles. Windmill Leasing has helped us with every aspect of the transition to a fully managed and maintained fleet.

How Leasing Works

Car leasing takes all of the hassle out of leasing a company vehicle. In a car leasing agreement you pay regular fixed monthly rentals that cover all risks such as capital acquisition, cost of depreciation, road fund licence, roadside assistance and final disposal. It all adds up to reduced internal administration and businesses are able to plan their fleet costs more accurately. And because you’re not actually purchasing the vehicle it will not appear on your balance sheet. A guide to Car Leasing

The vehicle is yours to use for the duration of the contract, but ownership of the vehicle is retained by the finance company. This means you don’t have to worry about the depreciation of the vehicle and there’s no need to dispose of the vehicle at the end of the contract. You simply hand the vehicle back to the finance company and start again with a brand new vehicle. Car leasing requires a lower initial outlay which is normally the equivalent to three or six rentals in advance, followed by monthly payments for the duration of the contract. Contract's are normally between 24 and 48 months. A car leasing agreement is subject to VAT but you are able to reclaim 50% on the finance element and 100% on the maintenance should you select this additional option.

What happens at the end of the Contract?

Each contract has a mileage allowance associated with it, which is set-up at the start of the contract based on what you anticipate each vehicle will do. An excess mileage cost will apply should the vehicle be returned with additional miles over and about its contracted allowance. The excess mileage is provided to you from the very first quotation so you will not have any surprises with regards to the excess mileage. Your dedicated account manager at Windmill Leasing, will also help you to monitor each vehicles mileage throughout the contract and offer advice about possible contract amendments if appropriate.

At the end of the lease period the vehicle will need to meet certain minimum standards which are commensurate with the age and mileage of the vehicles. These requirements are known as the fair wear and tear standards. We can provide you with a copy of the British Vehicle Rental and Leasing Association (BVRLA) guidelines for which we are an full member.
